VMP Lion Dance is a cultural performance team based at Vietnamese Martyrs Parish. Our mission is to preserve Vietnamese heritage and share the excitement of traditional lion dance with our local community.
Through performances at festivals, cultural celebrations, grand openings, and community events, we bring the spirit of lion dance to audiences of all backgrounds. Each performance represents luck, prosperity, and positive energy.
Lion dance has been performed for centuries across Asian cultures. The lion is believed to bring good fortune and drive away negative energy. During performances, the lion interacts with the audience, symbolizing prosperity, happiness, and new beginnings.
At VMP, we honor these traditions while also sharing them with new audiences. Our goal is not only to entertain, but also to educate others about the rich cultural history behind every movement, drumbeat, and performance.
Lion dance requires strength, coordination, rhythm, and teamwork. Each lion is operated by two performers who must move as one to bring the lion to life. Our members train regularly to develop precise footwork, timing with the drum, and acrobatic skills.
Beyond performance, VMP Lion Dance builds leadership, discipline, and strong friendships. Members learn to support one another while working together toward a shared cultural purpose.
